Best Practices in Scaling Utility Bill Management

Abstract

Governments, corporations, and energy services companies often need to collect and manage large volumes of utility data to develop energy projects and report greenhouse gas emissions. Relying on spreadsheets and manual bill gathering is time consuming. This session will provide an overview of strategies and best-practices for automating and optimizing utility bill data management and of some of the recent national efforts to improve data quality and access. Topics will include: common challenges and solutions for integrating with Accounts Payable, how to evaluate utility bill processors to align with your needs and the level of bill detail you should expect, how your choice of billing method (dual or combo) can impact bill processing costs and data quality, strategies for sharing data with Energy Star automatically, and methods for automating bill data collection.
