In this session, we’ll explore how early microgrid adopters are leveraging solar power, fuel cells, battery storage and other technologies to protect themselves against the inherent vulnerability of transmission and distribution wires.
We’ll describe how the colossal Osaka Fish Market in Japan rode unscathed through 2018’s Typhoon Jebi – the worst storm in a quarter century – thanks to the microgrid that powers its 3.5million square feet of auction space. You’ll also hear about the city of Hartford, Connecticut, which implemented a microgrid after a catastrophic storm caused a widespread outage in 2011. Today, its microgrid protects and provides 24/7 power to critical community resources including an elementary school, a library, a senior center, and a gas station.
Finally, we’ll share how Keysight, a high tech manufacturer in California, implemented a microgrid after wildfires knocked out power to its facilities, halting production for more than a week.
Preeti Pande, Ph.D is the global head of product management at Bloom Energy, a leading provider of energy solutions for microgrids. Established in 2001, and listed on the New York Stock Exchange since 2018, the company has developed the world’s most advanced fuel cell platform, utilizing solid oxide fuel cell technology. 25 of the Fortune 100 have implemented its platform. Ms. Pande is in charge of the product roadmap for next generation fuel cell technologies and energy solutions. Previously, she was Vice President at Shocking Technologies in the semiconductor industry. There she led the product and technology teams and managed critical supply chain partnerships to expand the company’s business internationally. Ms. Pande has a Ph.D in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Arizona.
